So, this is the first entry for the Restless show in Heidelberg at the Halle 02. Lets just say, we have a lot to do over the next few weeks. I think that because this is the first Montana Scholarship, there is a lot of pressure to make it perfect, so we have been thinking a great deal over the last few weeks on how to communicate strong ideas and do justice to the medium of Graffiti. One thing we have all realized is that Graffiti is one of the great ancestors of Propoganda, although in an individualist sense. We have decided to play with this idea of Advertising campaigns and over the top exposure. As most of you know, the feature event, Restless, will be shown at the Halle 03, a temporary space set up for this project next to the Halle 02. The exhibiton design will be constructed by Heidelberg’s own Atelier Kontrast. In order to prepare for the structures that Atelier Kontrast intend to build for the show, Smash and Stefan have been hard at work painting, building and bombing for the opening which will take place on Saturday, the 1st of December. This is probably one of the most interesting urban collaborations of the year and it will only last for one day, so don’t miss it!!
Just to let you all know how this event is going to work, I will break it down for you. We are having two events for the Restless project. The first on will take place at American Apparel in Heidelberg, Germany (Hauptstr. 96) and will be featured in the store for a month. We contacted AA when we decided to do this scholarship, because we thought they might like to donate some t-shirts for the event. Since our hearty discussions about advertising and Graffiti being a large competitor, the project with AA has gotten much bigger.American Apparel headquarters in Los Angeles has given us creative freedom to set up an exhibition in their shop and they have ordered 17 of their famous billboard graphics for the artists to paint on. How’s that for trust! Smash and Stefan are also gonna bomb the store front windows with their signature styles. We are also gonna make limited edition t-shirts and sell them at the show. Smash 137 and Stefan are gonna do the graphics themselves, so get there fast, we are only printing 100.This opening will take place on Thursday, the 29th of November at 7pm. We will have a DJ and drinks, of course. It would be great to see everyone there, so if you have time, come down and check out the first Restless installment. We will be posting regularily on this page, bringing you daily updates and pictures from Montana’s own Ruedione http://www.ruedione.com/, who is the official documentor of this event. If he ever gets back from sunny Mexico (lucky bastard!) we should be able to load some of his gorgeous pics on the blog. Until then, check out his site for slide shows of Smash 137 and Stefan Strumbel at work or just fuckin around!
